Teaching

Mission

My teaching mission is to share the joy of music and creativity with my students and empower them to work towards their technical, creative and career goals. What to Expect

Why learn to sing and write songs?
I think the most important part of teaching is to share the joy, sense of achievement and healing that learning and making music can bring. It’s changed my life (and now is my life) and I want to be there to see how it changes other peoples lives.

What does the learning process look like?
Having a goal is really important and will dictate how lessons are structured. The goal can range from working towards a singing exam, learning how to use your voice in a healthy way, learning how to write your first song or simply allowing yourself to let go and improvise.

What might the lessons include?
For singers, lessons could include a warm-up, technical exercises relevant to your personal goal, repertoire chosen by you and me, workshopping performance technique and vocal approach.

For songwriters, lessons could include a warm-up songwriting exercise, short songwriting tasks using parameters, lyric writing, studying genres, dissecting songs to uncover songwriting techniques, working on unfinished songs, starting new pieces. We can also discuss where to go once you have written the song... recording? performing? collaboration? Exciting!
